Leidos Has World Cup Fever

The top five reasons a career at Leidos is a soccer lover’s dream

Leidos is officially World Cup crazy.

If you attended our USA vs. Portugal watch party at Reston Town Center, this probably comes as no surprise. But if you missed out on the fun, here’s a taste of how we celebrated with eight thousand of our closest friends.

Of course, all of this was made possible through our partnership with storied Major League Soccer (MLS) club, D.C. United. Leidos became the club’s official Presenting Partner, complete with our name and logo across the team’s official jersey, at the start of the 2014 season.

From my seat as a Leidos employee, I can certainly affirm what you may already suspect, that a career at Leidos is a soccer-lover’s dream.

To prove it, here are my Top Five reasons every soccer fan should consider a career at Leidos.

USA v Portugal 2014

1. Soccer on the rise

There has never been a more exciting time to be a soccer fan in the United States as we witness its rise to prominence in our culture. With World Cup mania at fever pitch once again, what’s not to love about “The Beautiful Game”?

Along with our good friends at D.C. United, we pulled out all the stops to throw the biggest World Cup watch party in the Washington area during the most-watched soccer event ever in the United States. Do a search for #Leidos4USA on social media to get a glimpse of the unforgettable day. My personal favorite tweet came from one man who observed that Reston Town center had transformed into “Brazil North.” Perfect!

The MLS is also rapidly expanding, with new clubs coming to Orlando and New York, and a brand new stadium on the way for our very own D.C. United. With our multi-year partnership with D.C. United, Leidos has a front-row seat during these exciting times.

2. The name across the chest

As a newly-named company, we’re working to gain the recognition we had built up over 40 years with our previous name (SAIC). I have to admit, it’s fun telling people I work for the company on the D.C. United jersey. It scores serious points! It doesn’t hurt that D.C. United is the most storied franchise in MLS history with four league championships. For more information on the sponsorship, check out our feature page

3. Serving in the community

4. Fan Fridays.

At Leidos, we have a fresh perspective on Casual Fridays. One Friday each month during the MLS season, employees are encouraged to show off their team pride at the office. As fun as that sounds, it doesn’t end there. Employees can upload a pic or video of themselves supporting their team to our internal social network. Entries with the most number of “likes” from their piers can win custom D.C. United jerseys, merchandise, and VIP fan experiences.

5. Employee appreciation events and regional meet-ups.

Nearly 5,000 employees came out to RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. this June for the first Leidos Employee Appreciation Night. Employees were treated to free tickets, free food, a special viewing area, a beautiful night, and a 1-0 D.C. United victory of the Columbus Crew!

But the partnership doesn’t just benefit our employees in the national capital region. Leidos has hosted D.C. United meet-ups and tailgates at away games in Columbus, Philadelphia, and other MLS cities.

There you have it. If you’re as soccer crazy as we are, check out our career opportunities to join the team. Vamos United and Go USA!
